For the Culture!
Don’t speak just yet….
Yeah, me too.
Flawless. This woman is Adwoa Aboah. Fashion model. British Vogue. British GQ’s “Woman of the Year.” American Vogue. Vogue Italia. i-D. Model of the Year. FentyxPuma. Alexander Wang. Sis, is definitely a major MOOD! She has appeared on the cover of the magazines listed above, all while serving as the face of major brands. I know you are probably thinking, ok what?
Recently, she partnered with the well-respected fashion powerhouse, Burberry. This campaign was revealed in three segments. The third part caught my eye. Aboah is featured with her aunties and sisters wearing vintage Burberry fabrics that were designed by one of her aunties. Now, Burberry, I applaud you for this one. Adwoa writes, “Going home, back to the motherland. A place where I felt like an outsider but always wanted to belong. Growing up differently, never knowing the mother tongue.” She then explains how Ghana is only depicted one way to the world and she wanted to show them that there are two sides to every story.
Aboah’s long-standing relationship with Burberry, put her in the position to administer the art-directed images. This all boils down to my favorite image from the campaign. Fashion, in my opinion, has took a boring twist. Style, lasts forever, and it is pretty much all we have to bank on. Aboah’s style showcased here, in this one photo, is impeccable. I am affectionate for the long-sleeved turtle neck paired with the stripe-patterned suite, and the pointy-toed heels. I love this look because not everyone can pull this off and it is not straight off the runway. She puts her own twist to it. There are definitely key elements in describing style and what works for you. This introductory look is creatively decorated, and it’s structured organically.
Since we’re talking Burberry, I rambled through Instagram and found three impressive looks followed by two from Aboah's campaign. What are your thoughts on these fabulous gals? Did they MonSLAY or it’s a MonNAY?
